About North County LGBTQ Resource Center

In 2008, the North County Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Coalition was formed, planting the seed of what would become the North County LGBTQ Resource Center. The Resource Center opened in Oceanside, CA on December 8, 2011. This provided a place for North County LGBTQ people and reuniting groups, thus giving us a voice, increasing visibility, and improving our lives.

Mission Statement:

To foster and empower the North County LGBTQ community by providing a safe space, advancing awareness and visibility and sustaining equality and inclusiveness.

Vision Statement:

We envision a community where everyone lives in equality, feeling accepted, valued, safe and free from social stigma.

Pride by the Beach plays an active role in the Mission and Vision of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center.

Each year the number of attendees has steadily increased. Our first Pride event had 800 attendees. By 2013, the number more than quadrupled to over 4000. In 2014, we took Pride by the Beach to the streets of downtown Oceanside, CA. The move from the parking lot @ the Beach to downtown gave us more visibility, more accessibility and the number of attendees nearly doubled to 6000-7000! We are growing and growing fast!

In addition, each year a percentage of the money raised from Pride by the Beach funds our Project Youth Program. Awards are given to the North County Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs in the middle schools and high schools. These clubs promote respect for diversity in the schools, play a critical role in stopping and preventing harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ students, and helps ensure that the schools are safe for everybody. Our youth need our support. This is a great way to give back to our community. In the past few years, Pride by the Beach has provided over $16,000 in cash awards to the GSA clubs.
